Dear AOBox users,
We’re pleased to announce a new version of AOBox.
Many thanks to all our beta users who have sent us their feedback. You will find the improvements and fixes we have made in version 0.8 listed below.
Note: This version is a technical preview and we encourage you to provide feedback before we make the application available. Feel free to share AOBox with users from your domain for testing.
Universal guest login
AOBox now allows you to invite virtually anyone to collaborate on the folders you share.
Guests who don’t own an account with Microsoft, LinkedIn, or Facebook can securely create an AOBox account using their email address to access the content you shared with them.
Also, Google is now supported as an identity provider to log in to AOBox Explore. You can leverage this to share content with Google users while restricting the actions they can perform. This functionality isn't available in Google Drive.
Upload a new version of a file
Guests with the writer role can now upload new versions of the files in your folder. Older versions are kept and can be restored via Google Drive.
New permission system
Starting from this version, your guests will no longer receive Google Drive’s invitation email.
This is because AOBox now handles guest permissions independently from Google Drive, which puts you in control of who can access your content via AOBox and who can access it via Drive.
As a drawback, you will no longer be able to view which AOBox users your folder is shared with via Google Drive.
Note: AOBox will leverage this new feature in future versions, to provide you with fine-grained roles and permissions for guests.
Download Google files
Your guests can download any Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings you share with them. The files are automatically converted into their corresponding Microsoft Office format (and SVG for Google Drawings).
You will find more details in our articles in our knowledge base.
We’re working on introducing the possibility to share subfolders.
AOBox will be generally available when this feature is complete.
If you have any feedback or issues, you can reply to this email.
Thank you in advance, and enjoy this new version! We look forward to hearing what you think.
We wish you the best experience with AOBox and we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Just send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
